Day 25

We zeroed in Hiker Heaven today and I was able to pick up a bug net for the mosquitoes in the Sierras. I also found a scale and learned that I've lost 10 pounds since starting the trail, so hopefully I can get that under control so I'm not completely emaciated by Oregon.

Steps taken today/total: 0/797,664
Miles today/total: 0/454.3
Elevation gained today/total: 0/65,497
Elevation lost today/total: 0/74,696

  1. So apparently if a person wants to lose 10 pounds in 25 days, he or she just needs to walk almost 32,000 miles per day? Seems easy enough! Keep it up! (Not the losing weight part, but the moving forward part) :)

  2. Tammy, it doesn't work that way for us women! The men can lose 10-20 pounds in the first 30 days on the trail but in each of the trails we walked with the longest being nearly 5,000 miles we only lost 8-10 pounds total. So demoralizing.

Jake, we are enjoying watching you progress up the trail. It really seems as though you have embraced the gifts of the trail. Remember, there are good days and there are bad days, but in the end, you will remember them all as a fantastic experience! Keep on walking. Julie & Barry

  3. Oops! I just realized I typed 32000 miles instead of steps per day. Obviously, you're not going quite that far!
